Students and staff united to raise money for the family of ex-student Marshall Arnott - read our student report.

This report was compiled by student reporters Sadie and Josh:

In the aftermath of the tragic events, Mitchell’s closest friends showed a tremendous amount of courage and support by rallying together to organise a way in which to support Marshall’s partner Elley and young daughter at this devastating time.

Their efforts were kickstarted by a large donation of baby clothes from Miss Frier, which the boys washed, dried and put into gift boxes for baby Isla, Marshall’s five-month-old daughter.

Mitchell’s friends decided they wanted to raise money for Marshall’s family and began to collaborate together with staff in order to arrange a charity football match in Marshall’s honour.

The boys were constantly backed throughout this process by Mrs Ware and various other staff members, including Mrs Hannaford.

Jay Jones even had the courage to speak about the charity fundraising game in front of all staff members in morning briefing.

This culminated in a game between the Year 10 and 11 boys versus staff members being arranged, with students of Year 10 and 11 donating money to watch the exhibition.

Following this, Marshall’s football team - made up of ex-students- played our current Sixth form team. Mrs Beacham was pivotal in making this happen.

In addition to the match, there was also live music performed by Mr Crocker and hot dogs sold by our very own Mrs Hannaford and Mrs Griffiths.

Mr Darch and Mr Simpson entertained the crowds with their fabulous commentating whilst Mr Cole refereed the two games.

Mitchell’s friends, directed by Paige Beacham, were also instrumental in selling bands and carrying out a bake sale on the day.

A huge thanks to staff for donating to this.

Representatives of Plymouth Argyle’s playing staff, Ruben Lameiras and Joel Grant, were also present on the day, lining up in unison with both sets of players as well as Marshall’s girlfriend and daughter to carry out a minute’s applause in honour of Marshall’s life.
