The 71st anniversary of the Holocaust was marked at the College with an exhibition and a special assembly.

"Auschwitz was liberated by Russian soldiers on 27 January 1945 and the horrors of the holocaust were revealed to the outside world," explained Humanities teacher Mr Atkinson.

"Every year on this day the Holocaust is remembered. At Stoke Damerel I Ied an assembly for Year 10 students on this year’s theme which was 'Don’t Stand By'."

There was also a display in the Street highlighting British heroes of the Holocaust who had not stood by but instead got involved to helped save Jewish people from all over Europe.

"We need the next generation to be aware of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides in places like Bosnia and Darfur," said Mr Atkinson.

"Holocaust Education is vitally important."
