GWR Inspires our females students

Recently, a group of ambitious young ladies spanning years 10 to 13 embarked on an enlightening journey into the realm of career possibilities within the railway industry.

Hosted by GWR (Great Western Railway), a comprehensive careers workshop unveiled a range of employment avenues within the railway sector.

The session showcased an array of roles ranging from train drivers and engineers to managerial positions, HR advisors, and customer service hosts. What struck the students most was the realisation that GWR fosters robust career paths for women, with entry points available at ages 16, 18, and post-graduation.

Breaking into smaller groups, the students eagerly absorbed insights from seasoned GWR representatives, each shedding light on the essential qualities and skills needed for different roles within the railways.

Miss Trezona, Careers and Employability Manager, said, “The students were all unaware of what was available in this sector and were encouraged by the support that GWR offers."

Acknowledging the under-representation of women in the industry, GWR stands out for its proactive efforts to enhance gender diversity across its workforce. The GWR representatives explained the comprehensive training and development initiatives offered by the organisation.

For the students, it was not merely a workshop but a transformative experience, bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world career exploration.

Miss Trezona expressed gratitude to the GWR representatives for generously sharing their time and expertise, recognising the invaluable contribution towards shaping the students' career aspirations. Indeed, such interactions serve as crucial milestones in students' journeys towards informed career decision-making and professional growth.
