Honouring Bravery and Sacrifice: Our Remembrance Day 2025

Today, our school community came together to honour and reflect on the bravery and sacrifice of those who served in the World Wars.
The day was filled with creativity, reflection, and pride as staff and students united to remember the heroes who gave so much for our freedom.
In the lead-up to Remembrance Day, students worked hard to raise awareness and pay tribute through a variety of thoughtful and inspiring projects.
Across campus, our TV screens shared a presentation about the history and meaning behind Remembrance Day, helping everyone learn more about its significance. The Art Department brought colour and creativity to the occasion with a striking poppy display made from bottle tops and umbrellas, creating a powerful centrepiece in Main Street. Students and staff also teamed up to design a stunning poppy dress, proudly displayed throughout the week.
The Diversitas Team made a heartfelt contribution by handcrafting Black Poppy roses out of melted vinyl, honouring the vital contributions of Black, African, and Caribbean communities during the war – both those who served and those who supported from home.
Today, at 10:45 am, the whole school gathered on the blue astro pitch for a moving service led by Mrs Frier and Mr Oakes. Our Poet Laureate, Judith, shared an original poem that beautifully set the tone for reflection. At 11:00 am, a two-minute silence was observed across the campus – a moment of stillness to honour those who gave their lives for others.
Following the silence, Head Student Thea, our House Captains, and a representative from the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) laid poppy wreaths in remembrance – a simple but powerful gesture of respect and gratitude.
One of the most moving moments of the day came as students from the CCF, RAF, Army Cadets, Sea Cadets, St John Ambulance Cadets, and Scouts proudly took part in a special parade. Dressed smartly in their uniforms, they stood as symbols of courage, service, and dedication – watched by the whole school community.
This year’s Remembrance Day was more than just an event – it was an experience that brought history to life and reminded us all of the importance of gratitude, unity, and remembrance. The commitment and creativity shown by our staff and students made the day truly special, ensuring the bravery of those who fought for our freedom continues to inspire future generations.
Lest we forget.
