Girls’ Football: Skill, Spirit, Success!

Our Year 8 girls’ football team travelled to Plymstock School for their annual central venue fixtures, where they faced strong opposition from Devonport High School for Girls (DHSG) and Coombe Dean.

The first match saw the girls take on a very competitive DHSG side. In a closely fought game, the team showed determination and resilience, narrowly losing 1–0 despite a strong performance throughout.

The second fixture against Coombe Dean highlighted not only the team’s ability, but also their outstanding sportsmanship. With Coombe Dean arriving with reduced numbers, our players kindly offered to rotate positions and share game time rather than playing a smaller-sided match. This thoughtful gesture ensured everyone could enjoy the game and demonstrated excellent teamwork and respect.

The match finished with a well-earned 3–1 victory, but it was the effort, attitude, and support shown to both teams that truly stood out. All players performed superbly, with special mentions going to Ivy, who made her footballing debut, and Ella, who consistently found space, delivered fantastic crosses into the box, and capped off her performance by getting on the scoresheet.

Well done to all the girls -  a fantastic display of commitment, sportsmanship, and team spirit. There is certainly more to come from this impressive group of players!
