Visual Arts Students Inspired by London Museum Visit

Students from Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 recently embarked on an exciting Visual Arts trip to London, visiting the world-renowned Victoria and Albert Museum and Natural History Museum.

The visit provided an invaluable opportunity for students to experience historically and culturally significant artwork first-hand. Year 11 and Year 13 students, who are currently preparing for their GCSE and A Level examinations, were able to gather contextual research to support their chosen exam themes. Seeing artwork up close allowed them to deepen their understanding and draw inspiration directly from influential artists, designers and exhibitions.

Year 10 Art students, who are currently studying an Urban Structures project, were encouraged to explore and photograph the impressive architecture of both visually stunning buildings. Meanwhile, Year 10 Photography students, working on an Abstract Photography project, used the school’s DSLR cameras to capture striking abstract images, experimenting with angles, perspectives and points of view.

Despite a very early 5am departure and a return time of around 9.30pm, students demonstrated exemplary behaviour throughout the day. Their enthusiasm, maturity and engagement were a credit to the school.

Quinn said,

“It was amazing to see the artwork and architecture in real life rather than just in books or online. It’s given me so many ideas for my exam project and helped me think differently about composition and detail.”

Although it was a long and tiring day, it was thoroughly enjoyed by all and proved to be an inspiring and enriching experience for our Visual Arts students.
