Students Explore a Live Construction Site

Students recently enjoyed an exciting visit to the Community Diagnostic Centre as part of Building Plymouth Open Sites Week 2026, giving them a unique opportunity to experience a live construction environment and learn more about careers in both the construction and healthcare sectors.

During the visit, students took part in a guided tour of the site, where they discovered how the project is being developed and the range of roles involved in bringing such an important healthcare facility to life. One of the highlights of the day was the chance to take in the impressive view from the roof of the building, as well as learning about the specialist Faraday cage currently being constructed to house the centre’s two MRI suites.

Students asked thoughtful questions throughout the visit and represented the school brilliantly, demonstrating curiosity, enthusiasm and excellent behaviour. The sunny walk to and from the site also made for a very enjoyable day out.

“It was really interesting to see how a hospital building is put together. The Faraday cage for the MRI scanners was amazing and it made me think about careers in construction and engineering.”

A huge thank you to the team involved in hosting the visit and giving our students such a valuable insight into the world of construction and healthcare. Our students were fantastic ambassadors for the school and made it a day to remember.
