Year 9 Rounders: A Masterclass in Grit and Resilience

The Year 9 Rounders team made a triumphant return to the field last night for their first fixtures at Notre Dame.
In a remarkable display of commitment, 18 students stepped up to represent the school- a turnout so high it speaks volumes about the character and unity of this year group, especially considering these are 9-a-side matches.
Stepping onto the pitch as reigning champions, the team faced a steep challenge in their opening game against DHSG. With only two weeks of training under their belts, they came up against an elite side with the match ending in a 17.5 to 4 loss.
That "true grit" was rewarded in their second game against Torbridge. In a spectacular turnaround, the team showcased exactly what they are capable of with a commanding 29.5 to 12 victory. Every player found their rhythm, combining sharp tactical fielding with clinical batting to secure the win.
"I am so proud of how we didn't let that first game get us down," said Darcy. "We stayed positive, kept cheering for each other, and it really showed in the second game when we played like the champions we are!"
The evening was also a wonderful display of sportsmanship and collaboration. A special thank you goes to Mia from Scott College, who stepped in to play with Stoke students; her performance was sensational, proving that there truly is no one who can play backstop quite like her.
We are incredibly proud of how these students represented the school. They took a tough start and turned it into a masterclass in resilience. We can't wait to see them back in action. Roll on our next fixtures in June!
