DofE Silver and Gold Students Complete First Outdoor Expedition Training Day

Our Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) students took part in their first outdoor expedition training day around the stunning Merrivale, Dartmoor. The students were given a series of challenges, including navigating the area with paper maps and compasses, cooking meals, and assembling tents.

During the day, several students explored Kings Tor and Fogginator Quarry, with the quarry being a particular highlight. Many commented on the beauty of the area and felt fortunate to have the chance to explore such a remarkable location.

The objective was for students to collect points by navigating to different locations, with the added excitement of competing for the highest score. It was inspiring to see how well they rose to the challenge, demonstrating impressive teamwork, independence, and initiative. Their confidence and enthusiasm were evident as they worked without staff assistance.

This training day provided a valuable opportunity for our DofE students to develop essential skills, build connections with their peers, and experience the beauty of Dartmoor. We look forward to seeing how these skills will benefit them in their upcoming expeditions.
