Gold Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Across Exmoor

Our Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award students recently completed their final expedition, taking on the breathtaking and challenging landscapes of Exmoor. Spanning four days and three nights, the journey tested their physical endurance, resilience, and outdoor skills in a truly demanding environment.
Having gained valuable experience during their earlier practice expedition on Dartmoor, the group approached this final challenge with confidence, strong preparation, and a real sense of determination.
The adventure began bright and early, with students setting off from school at 7am for the drive to their starting point in Dulverton. From the outset, students demonstrated refined navigational skills and impressive teamwork, highlighting just how much they had gained from their earlier training.
Despite frequent rain showers throughout the walk, the group remained positive and resilient. Fortunately, the weather cleared in the evenings, allowing them to cook meals outdoors and even enjoy a game of football to unwind. Spirits stayed high, even after a memorable moment when one student, Toby, took an unexpected dip in the river at Tarr Steps!
On the final day, all the students arrived at the finish point in Lynmouth with big smiles and a great sense of achievement. Congratulations to everyone who took part—we look forward to celebrating your Gold Award successes in the near future.
