Smeaton House Reward Trip: Celebrating a Year of Dedication and Team Spirit

Throughout the school year, our four school houses have been competing to earn the coveted House Points reward trip. After months of commitment, resilience, and participation in both academic and extracurricular life, Smeaton House emerged as the overall winner — earning the highest number of House Points.
To recognise and celebrate this fantastic achievement, students in Years 7 to 10 who are part of Smeaton House were invited to attend a special Reward Trip Week packed with fun, adventure, and teamwork. It was our way of saying thank you for their incredible efforts and contributions to house life and the wider school community.
On Monday, our Year 8 students headed to the YMCA for a high-energy day packed with a variety of activities. They threw themselves into Nerf Gun Battles, competitive Football and Dodgeball matches, and the fast-paced thrill of Street Surfing. They also enjoyed games of Capture the Flag, slipped down the mats during Mat Sliding, and took part in team games designed to test their collaboration and problem-solving. The day was full of laughter, energy, and great team spirit.
Tuesday saw Year 7 students visit Marjon University for a day of outdoor learning and physical activity. The students took part in a range of team-building games and sports, developing their communication and teamwork skills while having a great time. A highlight for many was the chance to build dens in the natural surroundings, combining creativity with hands-on learning in the fresh air.
On Thursday, the Year 9 group took advantage of the beautiful weather with a trip to Tinside Lido. Against the backdrop of the sea, students enjoyed outdoor swimming, relaxation, and socialising with friends. It was the perfect setting to cool off, have fun, and reflect on all their hard work over the year.
To round off the week, Year 10 students visited Mount Batten on Friday for a day of adventure and exploration. The activities included Bell Boating along the water, energising Beach Games, and a fun Orienteering challenge. The day encouraged leadership, navigation skills, and plenty of team spirit — a fitting finale to an action-packed reward week.
This week of activities was more than just a reward — it was a celebration of the hard work, positive attitude, and dedication shown by every Smeaton House student throughout the year. Whether excelling in lessons, taking part in house events, or supporting their peers, Smeaton students have truly embodied our school values.
Smeaton House leader, Mr Harvey, commented, “The students had an incredible time. They had lots of deserved fun and made our school proud. The coaches couldn’t speak highly enough of our students’ manners, high energy, and leadership skills. It was a great week for all.”
Well done, Smeaton — you’ve earned it!
