Year 11 Students Attend University of Plymouth STEM Showcase

Recently, a group of Year 11 students attended the University of Plymouth’s STEM Showcase after being specially invited in recognition of their strong effort and achievement in their recent science mock examinations.

The visit gave students the opportunity to explore some of the university’s cutting-edge research and technology, including robotics, virtual reality, and innovative methods of growing plants in small spaces to support isolated communities.

Mason said,

“It was really eye-opening to see how science is used in real life. The technology and research on display made me realise how many exciting careers there are in STEM.”

Students also took part in a guided tour of the campus, which included viewing a student accommodation room and speaking directly with current undergraduates about university life.

Mariah said,

“Talking to students who are actually studying there made university feel much more achievable. It’s definitely made me think more seriously about going to university in the future.”

The event was an inspiring experience that helped raise aspirations and encouraged students to consider their next steps in science and higher education. Well done to all students involved for representing the school so positively.
