We are incredibly proud to celebrate the recent success of Year 8 student Frankie, who soared to success at a major national cheerleading competition in Coventry.
Competing with her team, Power Athletics, Frankie secured a prestigious Bronze Medal, placing 3rd out of 16 elite teams in her category.
The competition was a high-stakes event featuring over 50 teams, in different categories, from across the country.
In a sport where precision is everything, the margin for error is slim, for Frankie and her squad of 10, the pressure was on! Frankie explained the intensity of the performance:
"We had one performance and one try to get it right! It included lifts and technical moves, and the performance lasted two and a half minutes. You have to learn complex routines with lifts; you have to get it right, or else the whole team feels it."
Despite the complexity of the routine, Frankie’s experience shone through. Having cheered for two years, the bright lights of the national stage no longer intimidate her.
"I don’t really get nervous now as I’ve done so many competitions," she says. "I have lots of support from the team, and we all feel the emotions together."
When the results were announced, the atmosphere was electric. Against stiff competition, Power Athletics' dedication earned them a spot on the podium.
"I was really happy to come 3rd. I was a bit shocked, but we worked so hard, so I’m glad it paid off."
Beyond the medals, Frankie has developed vital life skills during her two years with the team. Cheerleading requires a unique blend of physical strength and absolute trust, something Frankie says has helped her grow:
"I've had to develop important skills being part of the team, especially friendships and teamwork."
Frankie isn't slowing down anytime soon. With two more competitions left in the current season, she is already back in training for her next big event in Birmingham this June.
Congratulations, Frankie! We look forward to hearing about your continued success on the national stage.
