From Jamaica to Plymouth: Students Bring History to Life in Windrush Project

20 amazing students recently took part in a special Windrush project to celebrate the history and legacy of the Windrush generation.
The celebrations featured a powerful performance of a short play titled 'Many Rivers to Cross', which took audiences on a journey through the history of the Windrush generation right up to the present day. The production was written and directed by KS4 Lead Miss Honeyghan, and brought to life by producer Angie Darker and Technical Lead Maris O'Donnell from the EAL department.
To conclude the project, students had the unforgettable opportunity to meet Mr and Mrs Walters, who shared their story. Having arrived from Jamaica just three years after the initial Windrush voyage, they shared first-hand accounts of the very same historic experiences the students had been researching. This year marks a remarkable milestone for Mrs Walters, who came to England at the age of 23 and is celebrating 70 years in the UK.
Reflecting on the importance of the project, Kenyon said,
"Learning about the real stories behind the Windrush generation made me realise how much of our history is woven right into our local community. It’s so important that we keep sharing these stories."
Thank you to everyone involved in making this project such an inspiring success!
