Amelia Secures 2nd Place at Plymouth Music Festival

In a celebration of musical talent at this year's City of Plymouth Festival of Music, Dance, Speech & Drama, our very own Amelia in Year 10 emerged as a shining star, claiming an impressive 2nd place out of 11 participants in her category.

Amelia's exceptional performance earned her a distinction with a remarkable score of 87 out of 100, falling just one mark short of the top spot.

The City of Plymouth Festival, a cherished institution founded in 1914, is not only a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the city but also a platform for budding artists to showcase their talents. Affiliated with the National Federation of Festivals and run by dedicated volunteers, the festival aims to provide children from Plymouth and its neighbouring areas with a unique opportunity to participate in a celebration of music, dance, speech, and drama.

Amelia's achievement is evidence to her dedication and passion for music. In her own words, "I was so surprised I even came second, and the competition and calibre were so high this year. I practice every day whenever I can as well as singing lessons twice a week so I am so pleased to have achieved this.” Her achievement not only speaks to her individual talent but also reflects the high standards upheld by the festival.

The festival experience, unlike other performance situations, goes beyond a mere stage appearance. Participants have the chance to showcase their skills in various categories such as dance, recitation, singing, and musical performances, all in front of a live audience. What sets the festival apart is the valuable opportunity for participants to receive constructive feedback and a mark from a qualified adjudicator.

As we applaud Amelia for her outstanding achievement, we also celebrate the City of Plymouth Festival for its continued commitment to fostering artistic expression and providing a stage for young talents to shine. Amelia's success not only enriches our school's musical legacy but also inspires future participants to reach for the stars in the realm of music, dance, and the performing arts.
