Cadets Take on the Challenge at YMCA Climbing Wall

12 dedicated cadets chose a different path sacrificed their leisure time to participate in the first of a series of three sessions aimed at boosting self-confidence and fostering trust within their group.

Located at the YMCA climbing wall, the cadets embraced the opportunity to confront their fears and push their limits. Under the watchful eye of their mentors, they embarked on a journey of personal growth and discovery.

The ethos of the session was "challenge by choice," - there was no minimum requirements other than a willingness to push oneself beyond comfort zones.

For Kaitlyn, one of the cadets grappling with a fear of heights, the experience was both daunting and transformative. Despite tears and trepidation, she exhibited remarkable resilience, returning to the wall time and time again, each attempt inching higher than the last. Her determination served as a poignant reminder of the transformative power of perseverance.

Steve emerged as a standout participant, pushing the boundaries of his capabilities with each ascent. His determination to improve, evident in his increasing speed, inspired his peers and exemplified the spirit of personal growth that permeated the session.

Some of the cadets  went on to learn the art of belaying, a crucial skill that would bind them together in trust and mutual reliance. As they prepare for the next session, the cadets will embark on a journey of shared responsibility, placing their safety in the hands of their fellow climbers.
