Stoke Damerel Community College

Oxford university Enlightens Students on student Life

Stoke Damerel welcomed Oxford University to give a presentation aimed at unravelling the mysteries of one of the world's most prestigious academic institutions.

Representatives from Exeter College, one of Oxford's 39 colleges, visited to talk about some key topics involved in going to one of the top universities in the world.

The presentation catered to two distinct groups of eager learners: Year 12 students who have university as their goal once they leave Sixth Form, and a group of talented students from Year 9, 10, and 11 with aims to go to university in the future.

During the talk, they covered topics like what studying at Oxford is really like, giving us a sneak peek into life as an Oxford student. They also talked about what it's like to live in Oxford – a city with lots of history and charm. Plus, they shared tips on how to think like an Oxford student, which was super interesting!

This visit is part of Stoke Damerel's plan to make sure all students know about the exciting opportunities waiting for them at university. We want to make sure that every student knows that going to a top university like Oxford is within reach, no matter where they come from or what their background is.

By exposing students to the myriad opportunities awaiting them, whether that be higher education, further education or an apprenticeship, we endeavour to empower each individual with the knowledge and insight necessary to navigate the path to post-16 education seamlessly.

We extend our gratitude to Oxford University and Exeter College for inspiring our students and offering them knowledge, whatever their next steps might be!
