Students Shine in First LEGO League Robotics Challenge

Nine of our talented students ventured to Exeter to showcase their skills in the First LEGO League Robotics Challenge.

This event marked the culmination of months of hard work and dedication by the students, who have been carefully crafting their project since September as part of the STEAM club.

Throughout the competition, these students proved themselves to be outstanding representatives of both their school and themselves. Judges were particularly impressed by their resilience in the face of setbacks during the robot games, as well as their innovative approach to their presentation - a captivating stop-motion video that set them apart from the standard PowerPoint presentation used by other schools.

Engaging in a series of intense matches, the group successfully secured a commendable 2nd place finish, narrowly trailing behind Churston Ferrers Grammar School in a field of eight formidable competitors. Their standout performance included achieving their highest scoring run of 140 points. Although they narrowly missed out on progressing to the next stage in London, their achievements were still celebrated.

In addition to their impressive performance, the group also received the esteemed "Rising All-Stars" award for their innovative ideas in both robot design and presentation. Looking ahead, the students are eagerly anticipating the delivery of their well-deserved trophy, scheduled for this week.

The students also received participation medals and have thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. They are eager to compete again next year and go one step further.

The students' remarkable performance not only showcased their talent and dedication but also highlighted the importance of creativity, resilience, and teamwork.

As the students reflected on the whole experience, here are some of their comments:

Dylan: "Can we go again next year?"

Henry: "I think we have a chance at this in the future."

Imogen: "I defnitely think we had the most creative presentation here."

Joanna: "The event was really cool."
