Amelie impresses at diving competition in Italy

Congratulations to our talented student Amelie who recently competed at the 8 Nations Youth Diving Meet in Italy and did incredibly well taking a Silver and Bronze medal in her groups.

Amelie, even made it in to the local news. Read the story below:

PLYMOUTH diver Amelie Underwood won two medals for Great Britain at the 8 Nations Youth Diving Meet in Turin at the weekend.

The talented youngster returned from the competition in Italy with a silver and a bronze medal.

Her silver came in the junior A girls’ one-metre springboard where she battled Germany’s Emily Deml and Mathilda Wendland for the podium placings.

Deml took gold with 368.65 points, but the battle for silver could not have been tighter with just 0.05 of a point separating Underwood and Wendland.

The two divers exchanged places throughout the contest, but it was Underwood who closed out her list with two strong dives to propel her above the German.

Underwood also made the podium in the three-metre competition, taking bronze behind Sweden’s Signe Stahl and Switzerland’s Lara El Batt.

The Plymouth diver, who is two years younger than some of her competitors, put in another strong list to end on a total of 347 points, which was just 17.40 points off the overall winner Stahl.

Underwood later teamed up with Caitlyn Coster as part of a brand new synchro pairing who are looking to develop throughout the season.

They took part in the A/B girls’ three-metre synchro event where an unfortunate knee buckle resulted in a failed dive in the second round.

But the partnership impressed throughout the rest of the competition as they finished less than 40 points off the eventual winners – Emily Deml and Louise Henni Mehner of Germany – and just 10.35 off the medal places.

Meanwhile, Tom Daley continued his preparations for this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris by winning two gold medals at the Diving World Cup in Berlin.

Daley was part of the Great Britain quartet that took victory in the mixed team event before also topping the podium in the men’s 10m synchro competition with Noah Williams.

The pair scored more than 93 points on their two hardest dives in round four and six to seize gold with a total of 465.00 points.
