Personal Development

Personal Development at Stoke Damerel Community College

Intent
At the heart of our Personal Development curriculum at SDCC is the belief that every student should be empowered to aspire and aim high, equipped to achieve with the skills to succeed, and supported to thrive, both within school and beyond, emotionally, socially and academically. Our Personal Development Curriculum is designed to support our young people to become the best versions of themselves and prepare them individually for their future lives.

Aspire
At SDCC, we encourage students to believe in themselves and dream big. Across all years, we set high expectations, offer positive role models, and expose students to diverse future paths. Our academic and character programs help them reflect on their progress, set goals, and build resilience.

Achieve
Our subject lessons equip students with essential knowledge and skills, while our Personal Development curriculum builds wider life skills. This includes wellbeing, healthy relationships, personal finance, online safety, British values, leadership, extracurricular activities, and career guidance.

Thrive
We focus on creating a supportive, respectful, and inclusive environment where every student feels valued and safe. Beyond academics, we help students develop the skills to live healthy, fulfilling lives and contribute positively to their communities. Programs like the House System and extracurricular activities foster a strong sense of belonging and prepare students to succeed in the modern world.
