In accordance with the School Admissions Code 2014, the Greenshaw Learning Trust has consulted on the admissions arrangements for Stoke Damerel Community College for entry in September 2023/24.

In response to the high number of applications received in previous years, the Trust Board has agreed to admit over our determined published number of 240, by admitting 270 students to Year 7 in September 2024. Note that we have not determined a higher published admission number - we have simply determined to admit over our published admission number for September 2024.

In-Year Admissions
Stoke Damerel Community College is part of the Plymouth City Council Co-ordinated Admissions Scheme for In-Year Admissions. Applications for admission to Year 7 after 1st September and for admission into Years 7 to 11 must be made to the Local Authority in which the school is situated using their In-Year Application Form. If you wish to apply for a place at Stoke Damerel Community College, you must name the school as one of your preferences on the application form and return it to the Plymouth City Council.
Where there are more applicants than places available, the school will maintain a waiting list according to the oversubscription criteria detailed in the school’s admission arrangements without regard to the date the application was received or when a child’s name was added to the waiting list.
Positions on the waiting lists may go down as well as up. This is because other children might be added to the waiting list who have a greater priority for a place against the school’s admission criteria; for example, when new families move into the area or when other families who had not previously named Stoke Damerel Community College as a preference, ask to go on the waiting list after the initial allocations date.

Please note that the School Admission Code 2014 has required amendment to our existing admission policies. The 2014/15 and the 2015/15 policies are therefore amended as follows:
(i) Wherever the policy refers to a child with a statement of special education need, the same provision also applies to a child with an Education Heath Care Plan.
(ii) The definition of a looked after or previously looked after child is now replaced with the following definition: A 'looked after child' is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions (see the definition in Section 22(1) of the Children Act 1989) at the time of making an application to a school. Previously looked after children are children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangements order or special guardianship order).
(iii) Admission out of the normal age group: Places will normally be offered in the Year Group according to the child’s date of birth but a parent may submit an application for a Year Group other than the child’s chronological Year Group. We will make a decision on the basis of the circumstances of each case and in the best interests of the child concerned. This will include taking account of the parent’s views; information about the child’s academic, social and emotional development; where relevant, their medical history and the views of a medical professional; whether they have previously been educated out of their normal age group; and whether they may naturally have fallen into a lower age group if it were not for being born prematurely. We will also take into account the views of the head teacher of the school(s) concerned. Parents must not assume that the decision of one school will transfer with the child to a different school as the decision rests with the individual admission authority. Where a place is refused in a different Year Group but a place is offered in the school, there will be no right of appeal.
